03.02 Prayer

Our prayers are entered into always as a space of invitation, not an obligation. Through a rhythm of prayer, both individual and communal, we enter deeper into relationship with God and with one another.

In Our Way of Life

.01

Each member discerns a daily rhythm of prayer in conversation with a spiritual director. All members develop a practice of daily examen at midday and before bed.

All members commit to pray for the Order’s communities and members.

.02

Members living in a common residential community meet for fixed-hour prayer at times determined by the community’s leadership and spiritual director, as well as the community’s needs. Each community engages at least one fixed-hour prayer using a liturgy or prayer book chosen by the community’s spiritual director.

.03

Members living near a common residential community will discern how they might share the community’s rhythm of prayer to the extent external commitments allow.

.04

We believe that Scripture is a vital part of the life of anyone following the way of Jesus. The Scriptures point to Jesus, and all Scripture is interpreted through the lens of the life of Jesus (Incarnation through Resurrection). Scripture is meant to be read and meditated on regularly, and each member develops a practice of prayer that engages with the reading of reading Scripture.

Lectio divina and praying the Daily Office are forms of prayer encouraged within this commitment.
