03.06 Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction invites a mature, discerning companion into our unfolding conversation with God so that we can notice and nurture the particular work of God in our life.
In Our Way of Life
.01
Spiritual direction is at the center of the experience of members of the Order of the Common Life. For every other commitment and practice in the member’s rule of life, spiritual direction provides a context for discernment and deeper noticing.
.02
By meeting regularly with a spiritual director, we’re being intentional about our conversation with God. Together, we notice the themes in our prayer and our everyday life, listening for God’s voice and particular invitations, believing we discern these better with others than in isolation.
.03
Each member meets with a trained spiritual director monthly in an ongoing relationship to track with the movements of God over time and with the member’s formational journey.
.04
Members may select their own spiritual director if they have a standing relationship with one, or the Order can provide a spiritual director from within the Common Life community and network. Members’ spiritual directors unfamiliar with the Order are simply asked to connect with the Lead Spiritual Director for an orientation conversation.
- What is the movement of God in my life?
- What in my life is nurturing intimacy with God and a desire to follow Jesus, wherever he may lead?
- What do I sense God inviting me into, and how am I responding?
We want to accompany you in noticing and nurturing invitations to accompaniment in your life.
