Having simply practiced paying attention to the shape of our life, we'll now take a little time to practice the skill of noticing ourselves and what's going on in our interior world through our daily life. The practice we'll use is some light journaling with another worksheet, with this simple outcome in mind: to be able to identify which parts of my day that affect me in different ways.
-
• Each day this week, use the “Noticing You: Activity Log” worksheet to record the activities of your day. Notice how engaged you feel in each activity and whether it increased or decreased your energy. Notice whether you felt in “flow” (an experience of being so “in the zone” that you can lose track of time). Make notes in the margins of anything that surprises you or seems immediately interesting.
• At the end of the day, look back on your notes, and notice tice if there's anything else you see or want to add.
-
• At the end of the week, take time to look back on your activity log. What stands out to you? Does anything surprise you?
• Look especially at activities where you were either highly engaged or disengaged, either highly energized or de-energized. What can you notice about what you were doing, what environment you were in, who you were with, what role you played?
• What patterns or themes can you see starting to emerge?
