The skill we're looking at this week is noticing the shape of our lives. And using the practice of light journaling using some worksheets, the outcome we're looking for over the next week or so you take with this module is simply this: to be able to point to some of the core values my life currently expresses and compare them to what I hope would be true of my life.

  • • Each day this week, use the “Noticing Your Life: Daily Log” worksheet to track where your time goes in your day. At the end of the week, use the worksheet to add up the time you spent into categories (work, family, technology, outdoors, rest). Which categories seem to get the most of your days? Note the top three or four. What else do you notice? What stands out to you? What might someone conclude just from this about what’s important to you and central in your life?

    • Identify three people who are close enough to observe a significant portion of your life as it is now (perhaps a work colleague, a family member, a friend). Ask them simply, “What would you say are the three things I value most?” Record these on the “Noticing Your Life: Values” worksheet along with three values you desire to be true of your life.

  • • What is it like to see the shape or broad brushstrokes of your daily life on paper? What does this reveal to you? What might you like to push back against that feels not accurately represented? What might you like to see shift?

    • What is it like to see how others interpret your life values? Do these feel accurate or inaccurate, fair or unfair? How aligned or misaligned do you feel with the values you wrote down and hope to be true of your life?
